In Australia, Fonterra collects more than 20 per cent of the country’s milk supply, has 12 manufacturing sites across Victoria (including the Stanhope and Echuca sites), Tasmania, New South Wales and Western Australia, and employs more than 2,000 people.
Fonterra’s Stanhope manufacturing site which employs120 people, has been in operation since 1925. It produces a range of specialty cheese including parmesan, pecorino, romano and gouda, along with ingredient cheddar for the domestic and export markets. Stanhope also produces ghee, AMF, skim concentrates and milk powders (skim, whey and buttermilk) for markets around the world.
The site and its employees are active participants in the local Stanhope community. In 2009, Fonterra’s Stanhope site donated $10,000 to the local Stanhope Country Fire Authority as part of its community sponsorship program.
